Objective

On the occasion of the International Women’s Day, the EU Delegation to Japan is organising a seminar to further enhance the EU and Japan’s collaboration in taking a leadership in realization of gender equality and women’s empowerment. The event will look at women’s political participation at both national and local levels and allow for European and Japanese stakeholders to discuss shared challenges, share experiences, and best practices, and identify potential avenues of cooperation.

Gender equality and women empowerment is a key priority for the EU, which the EU Delegation to Japan has been actively promoting locally, including in the context ofJapan’s G7 presidency in 2023.

As part of the discussions and activities conducted during the last months, women’s representation in political decision making has emerged as an indispensable step to further implement gender equality, and a key challenge in Japan, and to some extent in Europe.
